A M Monjur Hassan
I keep live TV, cloud recording and carrier voice running.
Technical owner of the IPTV platform at Beanfield, after 8.5 years on voice and video at Rogers. I built the monitoring that took channel outages from hours found by customers to seconds on screen. Engineer, system designer, builder of tools.
Where I have worked and studied

Flagship case study
SSM: the IPTV service-assurance platform
Before: no monitoring. A channel could be dark for 10 to 15 hours until a customer called. Now 29 GUI pages and dozens of detectors watch every channel, recorder, storage node, edge server and set-top-box signal, and the team sees a fault in seconds on the dashboard and the TV wall.

Open the case studyWhat I bring
Engineer, designer, system engineer, innovator
I build the tools I need
Dozens of detectors in the monitoring platform, a provisioning repair tool with dry run and diff, guarded batch jobs for recordings and storage, read-only gateways to live systems.
I design for the person using it
Two looks for a 29-page operations GUI with tool-checked contrast, a situation-first hub for KnowMyRights, and plain-word commands for the TV wall.
I own systems end to end
A four-plane monitoring architecture with git-first deploys and rollback, storage-cluster recovery in 30 seconds, an IPTV headend moved data centres in 72 changes.
I turn every miss into a new safeguard
A no-false-alert gate, replay before arming a detector, same-hour baselines, and for KnowMyRights a lint gate that blocks legal-advice wording and a chat grounded in verified facts.
How I work
Three things I keep coming back to
Customers should never be the monitor
Every outage a customer found first became a detector, so the next one is on screen before anyone calls.
Every change has a way back
Record the current value, state the reverse, dry run, then commit and verify. If I cannot undo it, I do not do it.
Write it down
Runbooks, test plans and guides that let support fix problems without escalating, and let the next engineer start where I stopped.
Current work at Beanfield
SSM monitoring platform
The IPTV service-assurance platform and its 29-page GUI: from customer-found outages to seconds on screen.
Vancouver IPTV launch
Stream path, regional bundles and plans, and an end-to-end provisioning test for British Columbia.
Guide migration and recording repair
New guide feed, repaired series recordings, a one-day cutover and a guarded daily re-key job.
Cloud recording storage cleanup
Proved from viewing history that expired recordings were never watched, then removed them with gated, byte-exact deletes.
TV wall and wall bot
8 screens, 72 channels, changed from Webex in plain words, with a live view in the GUI.
Platform tooling and reliability
Provisioning repair, read-only gateways, storage recovery, baselines, box logs and captions.
Support, diagnosis and knowledge
Evidence-first freeze method, a hardware test bench, remote box access and the knowledge estate.
IPTV knowledge vault
373 linked, source-cited pages of the whole platform, fault-path maps and a weekly drift check.
Comwave and Rogers: IPTV, voice and network
IPTV headend: data-centre move
Encoders, packagers, DRM, CDN and nPVR moved to a new data centre, then firmware and CMS work.
BroadWorks voice platform
Security patching of all 10 production XSP servers, the staged path to R25 and the care of a live voice platform.
SBC upgrades and resilience
Oracle and Ribbon session border controllers upgraded and proved, and wholesale routing recovered after an outage.
STIR/SHAKEN and number routing
CRTC call signing on the SBCs, and the national routing data that sends each call the right way.
Network, monitoring and security
Core and data-centre moves, the move from SolarWinds to OpenNMS, and security reviews.
Education and early career
High-capacity fibre design
A 33-channel DWDM system linking Montreal and Quebec City, with amplifiers, dispersion compensation and power budgets.
Real-time multimedia and QoS
Cisco router labs measuring voice and data under different queuing methods.
Optical amplifier design
An individual two-stage EDFA design for 38 channels in the C band.
Signal analysis and lab teaching
A thesis from field vibration data to a MATLAB model, and teaching 3 communication and circuits labs.
International voice gateway
System engineer on an international gateway: voice routing, core alarms and the NOC.
Everything else
Streaming and alerts, certificates, NOC work, course labs, tools and smaller projects are all on one page.
